Move from Obsibrain V1

Analyze a supported V1 vault on desktop, review the import plan, and verify the new V2 files.

The desktop migration wizard imports recognized content from an external Obsibrain V1 vault into the current V2 vault. It supports V1 versions 1.2.0 through 1.3.0.

Prepare both vaults

  1. Create a complete backup of the V1 source vault.
  2. Create a complete backup of the V2 target vault.
  3. Open both backups to verify them.
  4. Open the target vault with Obsibrain V2 on desktop.

Use a fresh V2 vault when practical. Keep the V1 source in a separate folder. V2 uses .obsidian/plugins/obsibrain/; V1 uses .obsidian/plugins/obsibrain-plugin/.

If V1 is also enabled in the target vault, disable it and reload Obsidian. V2 stops before vault or settings changes while V1 remains enabled.

Analyze the source

Analysis writes nothing. Import creates new target files and leaves the source unchanged. Existing target content is never overwritten. Custom workflows still require review and manual correction.

Open Settings → Obsibrain → Migration. Select Open migration wizard and enter the absolute path to the external V1 vault. Select Analyze.

Analysis requires no license. Review the proposed file writes, compatible setting changes, exclusions, conversions, warnings, and blockers. Some legacy views have approximations. Unsupported content stays flagged for manual work.

Resolve blockers before import.

Import the reviewed plan

Confirm that you reviewed the plan, then select Import. Keep Obsidian open until the operation finishes.

The importer checks source files again before it writes. If import stops partway through, rerun analysis. Identical files and compatible project metadata are skipped on the next attempt.

Open the local report after import. Its notices identify conversions, preserved content, and manual follow-up. Copy support summary copies a redacted summary for support.

Check the result

Review imported projects, goals, tasks, recurring habits, meetings, people, archives, and reviews. Check outcomes, deadlines, completion dates, project-goal links, attachments, icons, canvases, and important note links.

V2 templates remain unchanged. Customized V1 templates and scripts are not copied or executed. Recreate hotkeys, command pins, property types, workspaces, themes, snippets, and third-party settings manually.

Keep both backups until the imported workspace passes your review. Use organization, templates, and widgets to rebuild unsupported custom behavior.
