Periodic reviews
Create weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reviews from editable templates and control each cycle.
On this page
Periodic reviews provide dated notes for reflection and future plans. Obsibrain supports daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly cycles. Each cycle reads an editable template from your vault.
Create a review
Run the command for the period you need, then choose an available date:
| Command | Folder | Filename format |
|---|---|---|
New Daily Planning |
reviews/1-daily |
YYYY-MM-DD.md |
New Weekly Review |
reviews/2-weekly |
YYYY-Www.md |
New Monthly Review |
reviews/3-monthly |
YYYY-MM.md |
New Quarterly Review |
reviews/4-quarterly |
YYYY-Qq.md |
New Yearly Review |
reviews/5-yearly |
YYYY.md |
For example, a weekly note is 2026-W38.md, and a quarterly note is 2026-Q3.md. Weekly reviews follow ISO weeks.
The command offers missing review notes. The start date in General settings limits earlier review candidates. Clear that setting if you do not want that limit.
Use the review
The supplied templates combine native views, reflection questions, and planning prompts. Write your answers in the note. Use its links and views to inspect the underlying work.
Review creation is a command-driven action. Do not expect a background process to write your reflections or complete a review for you.
Keep only useful cycles
Open Settings → Obsibrain → Review Cycles. Disable any cycle you do not use. Its command and widgets disappear, and Obsibrain stops creating its default template.
Existing notes and templates remain untouched. If you enable a cycle again, Obsibrain creates its missing template without replacing an existing one.
Edit the corresponding template to change future reviews. Keep the review folders and date formats so Obsibrain can identify each period.
