Projects and goals

Projects connect an outcome to the tasks that deliver it. Goals connect longer-term intent to direct tasks and linked projects. Both use ordinary Markdown notes with a type property.

Create a project

Run New Project. Enter a title and a required Markdown outcome. Add an optional deadline and linked goals, then select the folder.

The project template contains native progress and task views. Add tasks inside the project note or link to the project from tasks elsewhere:

- [ ] Approve the final outline for [[Website refresh]]

Obsibrain counts relevant internal and linked tasks. It writes the project’s completed date when its non-empty set of counted tasks is complete. New open work removes that date. A project with no counted tasks stays open.

Use the status property for your own workflow labels. A status such as done does not itself complete a project.

Create and complete a goal

Run New Goal and follow its prompts. A project’s goals property holds its goal links. The goal view shows direct task progress separately from linked project progress.

Goals finish when you decide. Open the goal and run Complete Goal to record its completion date. Run Reopen Goal to remove that date.

For existing projects, use the goal template’s project-link action or edit the project’s goals property with ordinary note links.

Archive deliberately

Set archived: true in a note’s properties to archive it. Standard page views hide archived notes unless the view requests them.

Completed archived projects remain part of a goal’s historical project progress. Incomplete archived projects leave that calculation. Moving a note into a folder called Archive does not replace the archived property.

Keep outcomes and useful context in the note body. Customize the Project and Goal templates to change future notes.
